Synopsis

Introduction Cheeky (Trasgredire) 2000

Tinto Brass’s Cheeky (originally titled Trasgredire) from the year 2000 continues to showcase the director’s distinctive style in the world of Sex comedy. Known for pushing boundaries, Brass builds on the erotic realm he explored in earlier works such as Salon Kitty (1976) and Caligula (1979). Like many of Brass’s creations, the film weaves themes of lust, desire, and betrayal with provocative visual language. The story of Carla, played by Yuliya Mayarchuk, is set against the backdrop of London, where she embarks on a journey filled with infidelity, sexual exploration, and satisfaction. Through jealousy, affairs, and emotional conflict, the film examines the complexities of relationships in a modern, boundary-pushing way.

Brass’s cinematic talents are clear, as the visuals are as much a character as the people on screen. His ability to capture intimacy, sensuality, and eroticism makes Cheeky not just about the explicit scenes, but also about the underlying tension between passion and betrayal. The film doesn’t shy away from the boldness that Brass is known for, drawing subtle parallelisms with his past work like Nerosubianco (1969) but also carving a new path. It becomes an exploration of fantasies and sex appeal, with Carla’s journey showing us the gritty, emotional side of sexual drama. With Brass’s focus on the intimate and personal, Cheeky offers not only entertainment but also a reflection of the cultural and emotional struggles that come with passion, longing, and observation.

Plot

In London, Carla Burin, an attractive Venetian woman portrayed by Yuliya Mayarchuk, starts a new chapter of her life working as an intern at a hotel. While settling into the city, she’s looking for an apartment where her boyfriend Matteo (Jarno Berardi) can join her. Moira, a bisexual real estate agent played by Francesca Nunzi, rents her a loft overlooking the Thames with intimate conditions. However, the situation quickly escalates when Matteo finds a nude picture of Carla and letters from her French ex-lover, Bernard (Mauro Lorenz), sparking a heated row over the phone. Angry, Matteo accuses Carla of betrayal, and she retaliates by sleeping with Moira, adding another layer of complexity to their already strained relationship. As the tension rises, Matteo arrives in London desperate for answers. Upon finding Moira naked in Carla’s apartment, he confronts her about all her past infidelities. He refuses her offer to perform fellatio before storming out. After a reflective walk in the park, where he witnesses much sexual activity, he begins to reconsider his stance. Carla later gives him a written account of her actions, but Matteo decides he no longer needs to know the details. The drama showcases the emotional complexity of relationships, love, and betrayal, making Cheeky (Trasgredire) a provocative exploration of human connections and desires.
